I have been learning to ride waves. Both my older brothers are accomplished body surfers, one practically has gills, and every year I ask for pointers on how to do it. But much like the process of making art, it’s a tacit knowledge, something that cannot be explained or taught directly. It is an understanding learned by experience, wave by wave.
